Dana Bledsoe is redefining cancer. After Dana was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she chose to focus on healing instead of fighting. Her art project, Mysterious Bodies, aims to change the image of cancer patients in the media. Dana is a powerful example of how no matter what comes against you, you can become complete and whole again. Her story is one of courage and strength, and she is focused on helping other women empower themselves throughout their lives.
Dana has seen the media’s representation of cancer patients and it is not always accurate or positive. She wants to show people who have been diagnosed with cancer that they are not alone and do not need to be ashamed.
Dana asks, “Why isn’t breast cancer being shown as art?”
The stunning and heartbreaking fact is that every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with cancer. Dana wants to invite more people into this conversation, and show the world that cancer is not something to be ashamed of.
Mysterious Bodies encourages women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer to feel empowered, and she is helping them do this through photography. Mysterious Bodies is an art project, which entails photographing women with breast cancer in a way that shows how beautiful and powerful their bodies are. Each photograph will be specific to the cancer patient and the emotions that they feel.
Dana wants to help other women connect with their emotions through Mysterious Bodies, and show women who have been diagnosed with cancer that they can feel empowered and beautiful even as cancer takes its physical toll.
Mysterious Bodies will be a tribute to all the women who have or have had breast cancer. She’s currently accepting photographs of women to feature.
